It's OK to Not Want to Move Up the Ranks.

In my underwriting days, I worked with one of the very best underwriting assistants I've ever seen.

She knew more than most underwriters.
She was smart, thorough, efficient.
Came in early every morning.
Took massive pride in her work.
Would get her work done and then roll up her sleeves and help others.

She was approached time and time again about moving into underwriting but she would simply respond,

"No thanks, that's not for me."

Many folks did not understand why she would not want to move into a role with more responsibility and more money.

Oftentimes I think people look down upon that kind of response but I'm here to tell you -

If you love your job and have no desire to climb the corporate ladder,

THAT. 👏 IS. 👏 OK. 👏

For some people, the goal is to climb the ranks and accomplish as much in their career as possible.

For others, adequate pay that gives maximum flexibility is most important

For yet others, being a stay-at-home parent is the dream.

I saw a post the other day that said something to the effect of "the worst place you can be is the same place you were at this time last year".

For some that is true, but definitely not for all.

I put myself in the camp of always wanting to learn and grow because professional accomplishment is important to me.

But that's not the priority for everyone, and that's ok.

If you're happy and doing what you feel called to do, never feel "less than" because your goals are different than someone else's.
